18 songs – compact disc

Birth- the Faint– ‘the insides out through a crescendo pitch as the guitar starts the whole process out from the beginning, where then it is joined after a few paces by all the accompanying players, and then the vocals ring out revealing the life story…’

Army of Me- Bjork– ‘the drums are what i follow most Here, later the lyrics and vocals fell into place, and the message was received loud and clear…’

Its No Good- Depeche Mode– ‘i like the bass line all throughout, a very Blade Runner feel, or perhaps it is the Eighties era attachment to both items…’

I Against I- MosDef and Massive Attack– ‘both production and vocal charisma appeal to me Here, a very relevant message when facing some of those inner perils and pitfalls, and one might finds themselves on the other side of the burned bridge…’

Do Not Go Quietly Unto Your Grave- Morphine– ‘the mellow break perhaps, something to giggle at maybe, and yet a totally serious display of practice without the melodic assistance of a lead guitar …’

Angry Johnny- Poe– ‘heard from long ago when the musical ear was opened first, at a time of personal transition in many ways, and the pronouncement for the end of an interesting series of memories…. all those brash years spent in Ohio during that formative period in life that we all experience somehow as human beings…’

Heart and Soul- Joy Division– ‘i like the slow build on this one, the bass starts very synthetic-like, and the drums follow pace shortly thereafter, the synthesizers drift in slowly and atmospherically…. the guitar and vocals are stark and cold as if seeming from the distance…’

I Am Legend- White Zombie– ‘based on the story and very well done, with the drifting guitar introduction, and it all blends together with trash metal splendor with debauched vocal howling…. i personally find the lyrics a little difficult to follow still…’

Wicked- Symphony X– ‘a very symphonically-oriented metal piece with operatic vocal harmony, a melange bravely put into a fusion fury with a the required catchy bits, and interspersed are those arresting sonic patterns steadily working to ground the whole song…. still trying to figure the words to this one, but i am lazy, eh…’

Before I Forget- Slipknot– ‘play some of the recent video games today, and you might hear this gem, though do not dismiss this so quick as fluff for the un-fluffy persons out there hard enough to like their metal complex and assaulting…’

Falling Away From Me- Korn– ‘the slight taps of treated guitar quickly evolves into a sonic barrage that hangs down with a bounce at the knees, but then sinister nightmare man vocals call into question motivation before the breakdown, and the story gets more drastic as it flows further away…. catchy metal with many dancing influences facing front and center…’

I Stay Away- Alice in Chains– ‘another gentle break although this one reflects the more negative aspects dealt with as the pleasant guitar becomes suddenly distorted and warped with the bass and drums, the vocals warp with the bits that shift and shudder as well, but the simple orchestral resolution and lead guitar part in a small pocket is worthwhile…. another heavy break into pleasant simplicity into orchestral rise that steadies into the fade…’

SFW- GWAR– ‘nothing gentle about the jarring drums for a couple beats, and then the screams and volume turn upwards as the virile vile lyrics spit and lash, the musical breakdown at the edge of the middle is worth it as they hit the mark and roll right back into the song’s structure again…. the end breakdown borders on empty…’

Bulletproof Skin- Institute– ‘gentle atmospheric into breathy vocals as the build becomes infused with hook-laden rock bits that catch along with the lyrics into the chorus, sudden velocity of the chorus rolling back into flourished verse parts, and the slight treble notes balance the vocal structure well…. i like the breakdown just before the end of the song that emphasizes the guitar work a little more…’

Distance- LIVE– ‘central vocals lead into the meeting with the songs’ generally warm structure, the lyrics ring prettily as vocals follow the message in a playful pattern, slight piercing piano/ harpsichord parts just define the intensely personal quality of this song…. the message is very positive and makes an open mind feel good…’

Live and Let Die- Wings– ‘at first, reluctance as Paul starts singing, but i enjoy the way the song flows with its various orchestral parts even through the pseudo-reggae at one point, a classic was born for movie-going audiences during the Sixties…. where it slows down reveals the most lovely ending…’

Where is My Mind?- the Pixies– ‘stop. a wonderful song is born Here, and there is need for few words as well, a strange cross-hatching of themes displaying many moods spanning the virtual range with a certain degree of surf-rock sonically-watery certainly simple water music…. all the parts fit Here like few other songs really do…’

Paint it Black- Rolling Stones– ‘a good feeling as it rolls on into the warm jangle of the drums and guitars as the vocals croon expressions of woe, the angst involved when living in stark contrast to the perfect picture, and all interpreted ages ago even now stays relevant as the world continues to burn with a strange flame indeed…. the blend of middle-Eastern and a bluesy feeling fitting well together…’
