Drinks.  They, as I have read in some other asshole’s opinion, say a lot about the person drinking them.  Thusly I decided that this asshole’s list of drinks that say the right thing, or at least the advantageous thing would be a good list indeed to study firsthand.

I began this trek a couple weeks ago with a James Bond original… the Vesper Martini.  For those of you unfamiliar, it’s a haymaker of a drink that includes two ounces gin, an ounce vodka, and ounce dry vermouth, and a twist of lemon peel.

While I have to admit the raging alcoholic in me admires this drink the same way a hick admires a Hemi (and did I mention when properly chilled, this fucker goes down smooth), I quite hastily crossed it off my list even before making it to the second installment simply due to the fact that good gin, vodka, and vermouth are expensive and I’m a frugal guy.  Don’t get me wrong, if you ever catch me with a fully stocked bar and order the Vesper, the Vesper you shall receive… just don’t count on too many liquor runs to have all three on the list.

Next up we come to the Cape Codder

Antioxidants and swill in one go?  The health nuts dream concoction right?  Maybe, and I didn’t find too much bad to say about it either… a couple ounces of Vodka balanced out with the rest of the short cocktail glass full of Cranberry juice left me nicely buzzed, and pretty fresh the next morning considering.  If you can man up and not feel like a girl holding this pink hued drink at a social function, more power to you.  This one’s definitely in the running.

And lastly for this post we come to the Gimlet.

A tasty take on seven up, the Gimlet consists of two ounces gin (in my present case I’m using beefeater, which I highly recommend if you’re a gin drinker and haven’t had it) and a half ounce of lime juice.  Sadly the limes I bought 20 minutes ago were dryer than your grandma’s vagina so I had to resort to ‘roses sweetened lime juice’ to make up the two thirds the limes left lacking.  I must say, it’s almost ‘sprite’ like with a rather heavy gin overtone, which, not unlike the Vesper, when properly chilled…. quite lovely.

Happy intoxication to all
